hi. i'm sam.

welcome to my web site. i guess i should say a few words about me...

who am i

i like programming and electrical engineering and mathematics. i am currently working on getting a masters degree in computer science, which mostly involves procrastinating writing my thesis. i will hopefully write about said thesis on this here web site at some point.

i live with my boyfriend and our two cats fristi and taksi (named after two classic drinks from our childhood).

in my ‘free time’ i mostly write code (such as the static site generator that generates this site!) and fuck around with electronics. i know very little about electronics (my background is in software), so at some point i should probably learn some circuit analysis and general analog electronics or whatever. i also enjoy (analog) photography, though i do far too little of it, and i dabble in esperanto (mi studis ĝin dum du monatoj en universitato, kaj volas uzi ĝin pli ofte).

what is this site

personal websites are the little gems of the internet, imo. i love seeing a website and how it reflects the person that built it. too much of the web, especially the social web, is hypercorporate walled gardens, and the personal website is the antithesis of that.

especially for long-form content, there is nothing better than the personal website. pretty much any other platform has descended into an ad-infested, unusable mess, distracting from the writing that i want to read. the shining beacons of light are the beautiful, unique, perfect personal websites that people have made.

so, uh, yeah. this is mine. it's a work in progress. i've got some writing up that you might be interested in; it's about photography and server administration, but not at the same time, that would be weird.

anyway, thanks for visiting!
